A Big Thank You!

If it were not for the hard work of public transport workers, Singapore would come to a literal grinding halt. The Labour Movement goes down to the ground before dawn on the first day of Lunar New Year to shake some hands.

The silence of the night was broken by the thundering beat of drums and crashes of the lion dance troupe, signalling the commencement of the pre-dawn Lunar New Year visits by NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing, Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Transport Josephine Teo and key union leaders from the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) to Singapore’s public transport workers on 28 January 2017.

It has become a tradition for the Labour Movement to show appreciation to workers on the first day of Lunar New Year since 1999. This year, the festive cheer was brought to over 350 bus captains, depot staff and interchange staff from SBS TransitTower TransitSMRT and Go-Ahead Singapore

At the visits, SG Chan, SMS Teo and NTWU Executive Secretary Melvin Yong distributed red packets and mandarin oranges to those on duty.

Here’s a quick roundup of the visits in photos:
