The Labour Movement’s U Care Fund will roll out its first assistance programme for this year – the U Stretch vouchers, which are discount vouchers allowing union members to maximise their daily expenditure on basic necessities. The recent first fundraising event of U Care Fund – U Care Charity Golf 2011 had helped raised more than $6.8 million. From this amount raised, $3 million will be used for the U Stretch vouchers to potentially benefit 30,000 low-income union members. This year, each successful applicant will receive $100 worth of vouchers, a significant increase from the $30 last year.

NTUC’s Care and Share Director, Mr Zainudin Nordin said: “Although our economic situation has improved in general, we face the pressures of inflation and rising cost of living. Thus, we hope that this increase in quantum of U Stretch vouchers will help our low-income members cope better especially if they are the sole breadwinners or have several dependants.”

U Care Fund would like to make special thanks to the NTUC affiliated unions and associations, NTUC Social Enterprises and tripartite partners whose generous donations go towards funding  the U Stretch vouchers, in particular Singapore Labour Foundation (SLF), NTUC FairPrice Foundation, NTUC Income and NTUC Choice Homes. It is through such generous support to U Care Fund that allowed the Labour Movement to continue its efforts in providing assistance to the low-income members and their families.

Each successful applicant will receive one booklet with $100 worth of U Stretch vouchers in 2011. Each voucher is worth $2.50 in value and can be redeemed with a minimum spending of $5.00 at participating NTUC Social Enterprises.

Application is now closed.
