As Singapore persists on its fight against COVID-19, our essential workers continue to work tirelessly in their roles to provide service and support to the rest of Singapore. In appreciation of essential workers, NTUC and Punggol Shore have team up to distribute 2,300 care packages to the cleaners, retail and food and beverages (F&B) workers over two days on 29 August 2021 and 5 September 2021.
This care package distribution activity is part of NTUC’s 60th Anniversary where workforce units within NTUC take the lead to bring care into the community of their choice. This corporate social responsibility activity is led by NTUC U SME and NTUC U Women and Family (WAF).
The first hundred care packages were delivered on Sunday, 29 August 2021 to Punggol Shore’s Town Council community cleaners. The remaining care packages were delivered to retail and F&B workers on 5 September 2021. The distribution exercise on 5 September spanned 8 hours with NTUC staff and Punggol Shore volunteers visiting multiple locations including shops in Oasis Terrace, Punggol Place, and Tebing Lane. Recipients include workers from McDonald’s, POPULAR Singapore and small standalone shops.
To provide the essential workers with some practical support, each care package includes five types of snacks and chrysanthemum tea packets. The care packages were put together by staff from NTUC U SME, NTUC U WAF, and young volunteers from Punggol Shore.
As lead of this CSR, NTUC Director Yeo Wan Ling said, “Our essential workers have been putting in additional hours during the pandemic with cleaners ensuring our public spaces are clean and sanitised, and shop workers having to continue operating at the risk of exposure to infection. While the Labour Movement continues its work to extend protection and uplifting of our essential workers’ livelihoods, we want to deliver some personal warmth and support to them whenever we can for there is no such thing as too much care and recognition for these community heroes.”
