The Public Service Division announced on 25 November that civil servants will be paid a year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) of 0.8 month, with lower-wage officers getting at least $1,200. This is in addition to the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance of one month.

Some 980 civil servants will benefit from the minimum AVC payment of $1,200.

NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong said: “In particular, we are pleased that continued focus has been placed on the Division 3 and 4 employees. This signals the PSD’s commitment to helping our lower-wage officers.

Unions Respond

Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) General Secretary Ma Wei Cheng said: “AUPE welcomes the good annual package of 2.3 months for our civil servants and are happy that our suggested minimum AVC payment to help lower-wage officers was accepted.”

General Secretary for the Amalgamated Union of Public Daily Rated Workers G Muthukumarasamy shared that in spite of the narrowed GDP, “the Government has still given us a good year-end package and we are therefore, very grateful and thankful to them.”
