NTUC’s LearningHub (LHUB) and NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), in collaboration with several government agencies, brought more than 16,000 jobs, traineeships and training opportunities at the inaugural SGUnited Jobs and Skills Fair.
Held at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability on 3 July 2020, the fair had near 7,000 job vacancies from both the private and public sector; close to 3,000 traineeship positions in over 300 organisations under the SGUnited Traineeships Programme; and more than 6,000 training opportunities.
“As we operate the NTUC Job Security Council [JSC], we will leverage the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package initiative and work closely with the unions, companies and the Government to save jobs, create new ones and match workers to jobs.
“NTUC JSC strives to be the engine supporting the National Jobs Council to accelerate job matching between employers and job seekers, as well as to facilitate and tighten efforts on the ground in career advisory, skills training, traineeships and placement,” said e2i CEO Gilbert Tan.
The SGUnited Traineeships Programme will continue through a virtual career fair that is taking place till 12 July 2020. Those interested can visit the SGUnited Traineeships Programme Virtual Career Fair website.
Meanwhile, LHUB, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic will provide 6,000 training opportunities under the SGUnited Skills Programme for mid-career individuals.
The fair supplemented the over 12,000 job placements that have been completed so far through the SGUnited Jobs initiative.
Close to 70 per cent of these placements were in the public sector, including COVID-19-related, healthcare and digital positions.
Jobseekers can also visit the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Centres located in all 24 HDB towns.
Some eight SGUnited Jobs and Skills Centres have commenced operations since 1 Jul 2020.
These centres are situated at Boon Lay Community Centre (CC), Bukit Batok CC, Kampong Chai Chee CC at Heartbeat@Bedok, Cheng San CC, Keat Hong CC, Marsiling CC, Nee Soon South CC and Sengkang CC).
The remaining sixteen centres will be set up by 15 Aug 2020.
The Jobs and Skills Package announced by the Government aims to create 100,000 jobs and training opportunities by 2021.
NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, who was at the fair, said that the tripartite partners want to ensure jobs are accessible through the satellite career services centres and through job fairs in the heartlands.
“All these are to bring jobs within reach of Singaporeans. 100,000 is a big number. To make this real and reachable to residents is equally important,” he said.
