Of the 95 Members of Parliament sworn in for the 14th Parliament of Singapore, eight represent the Labour Movement.
Parliament held its first sitting on 24 August 2020, more than a month after the Singapore General Election.
Re-elected Labour Members of Parliament include NTUC Deputy Secretaries-General Heng Chee How and Koh Poh Koon; and Assistant Secretaries-General Patrick Tay, Melvin Yong and Desmond Choo.
NTUC Enterprise Group CEO Seah Kian Peng will also continue to represent the Labour Movement.
First-time parliamentarians include NTUC Operations and Mobilisation Division Secretariat Director Mohd Fahmi Aliman, and U SME and Women and Family Unit Director Yeo Wan Ling.
Ms Yeo joined NTUC on 17 August 2020.
The sitting was held in Parliament House and The Arts House.
Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan Jin made the call to have the proceedings done across two locations – a first for Singapore – considering the on-going COVID-19 situation.
The Arts House was chosen for its proximity to Parliament House, as well as its seating arrangement and capacity which allowed for proceedings to take place with safety measures in place.
The Members of Parliament took their oaths and made their affirmations from the chambers at their respective locations, which was simultaneously screened at the other site.
Singapore President Halimah Yacob also delivered her address from the chamber in Parliament House.
