The Severely Underrated Benefits of Vocational Skills

What was once an ubiquitous practice is now fast and in a desperate need of a comeback, and this practice is hands-on skills training. As nations move towards becoming adopting a knowledge based economy, fundamental skills such as the ability to craft or build has taken a backseat to the detriment of the current generation in this writer’s opinion. This is because, vocational skills provides you with crucial life skills such as woodwork and metal cultivates independence and efficiency among others.

Such skills cannot be derived from reading and writing which has ultimately made the present generation more reliant on fast fading ‘skilled’ individuals of the past generation. With that demographic quickly fading, it’s critical that vocational training is given more focus in schools to enable the next generation to be less reliant on external sources for the simplest of tasks
