I BELIEVE THAT A HAPPY PME IS A PME WHO IS ABLE TO FIND A GOOD BALANCE BETWEEN ‘LIVE’, ‘WORK’ AND ‘PLAY’ AND LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST.

I believe that a happy PME is a PME who is able to find a good balance between ‘Live’, ‘Work’ and ‘Play’ and live life to the fullest.

At the workplace, it is imperative that we believe in what we do. When you believe in what you do, you will be able to find the passion to go the extra mile. I started my career in IT, moved on to Economic Development before joining the Labour Movement and various Ministries. At each of these stages, the work may have been very different, but I have always been able to find a reason to believe in what I do and that has allowed me to give my best at work.

In every job, you have two choices: You either suffer from what you are doing, or you learn to find meaning and enjoyment from what you are doing. I believe that we can find meaning in every job. It is up to the individual to find the connection. Don’t wait for the connection to come to you. You have to take the initiative to search for that connection. Ask yourself why did you take up the job in the first place? What is your purpose in life? Are you able to align your purpose in life to the purpose of the job?

IN EVERY JOB, YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES: YOU EITHER SUFFER FROM WHAT YOU ARE DOING, OR YOU LEARN TO FIND MEANING AND ENJOYMENT FROM WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Be patient. Don’t be in a hurry to pass judgment. When you go into a new job, give yourself a chance and give the workplace a chance. It is very rare to be able to find a job that is a perfect fit. It takes time for an individual to harmonise himself to the job and the workplace. It’s not a compromise. You may start off at 80 per cent but quickly you become better and you run at 90 per cent and then 100 per cent and once you find the belief in the work that you are doing, you will go beyond the 100 per cent.

Outside my “Work” place, I have always tried to get the best out of my ’Live’ place and ‘Play’ place too. When I am on the golf course – my ‘play’ place; I let go of everything else. I am totally focused on my game. I am here to have fun, to have a good exercise. When you know you have given 100 per cent to your work, perhaps even 110 per cent, you will be able to have peace of mind when you are at the playground.

Outside of ‘Work’-time will be my ‘Live’-time and in my ‘Live-time’ I make sure I am doing my best as well. My family is very important to me, so no matter how busy I am, I will make sure I create time to spend with them. My community is also very important to me. I derive a lot of meaning from being able to contribute to my community and to my country.

When you always strive to give 100 per cent, in ‘Live’, ‘Work’ or ‘Play’, you will find yourself living your life to the fullest. Indeed, life is for living.
